Sharron and her colleague will maintain a desk at limited times during conference within the exhibition space and can further assist with flights required for the below tours prior to to your arrival in New Zealand.

Post Conference Tour Options

NORTHLAND and Bay of Islands (Sept 14-15)

Per person prices include transportation, Geothermal site visit, 1 night at Kingsgate Hotel Autolodge, breakfast on friday
*Cost of free day local tours is in addition to the tour fees below*

Per person on a twin / double basis is NZD$345.00.
Per person on a single basis is NZD$460.00.
Available spaces for 20 travellers.

Per person prices include coach, coach driver, tour leader, University of Auckland representative, site inspection, 1 night at Kingsgate Hotel Autolodge (or similar standard hotel), breakfast and New Zealand Goods and Services Tax at 15%.


Thursday 14th September

Depart Pullman Hotel early monring bound for Paihia in the Bay of Islands.
Site visit to Geothermal Power Plant
Destination and Overnight at Kingsgate Hotel Autolodge, Paihia.

Friday 15th September
Free day in Paihia. Local Tour options can be booked and paid for with Tour Leader and may include

Cape Reinga Day Trip.
Hole in the Rock Dolphin Cruise.
Play golf at Waitangi Golf Course.
Visit historic town of Russell.
Visit Waitangi Treaty Grounds.

1830 hours coach departs for Auckland.
2130 hours approximate arrival time in Auckland.

WELLINGTON / Wind Farm Tour (Sept 14-15) or (Sept 17-18)

Per person prices include transportation, West Wind Wind Farm visit, 1 night at Copthorne Hotel Wellington Oriental Bay, breakfast on day 2.
*Participants to make their own arrangements for their departure from Wellington. Exclusive Tours can assist with personal flight bookings

Per person on a twin / double basis is NZD$270.00.
Per person on a single basis is NZD$415.00.
Available space for 20 travellers.

Day 1 (Sept 14 or 17)
Participants are on their own arrangements for arrival in Wellington and transfer to accommodation.
Suggest participants meet for dinner at Mac’s Brew Bar and Restaurant, 4 Taranaki Street, Wellington.
*Participants to pay directly for their dinner and beverages.
Overnight: Copthorne Hotel Wellington Oriental Bay, 100 Oriental Parade, Wellington.

Day 2 (Sept 15 or 18)
0745 hours participants to meet in the hotel lobby at Copthorne Hotel, Oriental Parade, Wellington.
0815 hours depart Copthorne Hotel bound for West Wind Wind Farm, Makara.
0900 hours to 1130 hours visit  at wind farm.
1215 hours approximate arrival time back in Wellington.
Suggest participants visit Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa is the national museum and art gallery of New Zealand, located in Wellington.     Free entry.    Open every day from 1000 hours to 1800 hours.


New Zealand has consistently strong wind conditions compared with most other countries.
This means the capacity factor of wind farms in New Zealand is more than double the international average.
West Wind is Meridian’s largest windfarm. The 62-turbine wind farm is located within Terawhiti Station and Makara Farm west of Wellington city.
The total site is about 53 square kilometres.

Technical information:
Capacity: 142.6MW from 62 turbines, each 2.3MW
Towers: are built in two sections and also include over 14,000kg (14 tonnes) of cables
Bottom: 30.8 metres, 75 tonnes
Top: 36 metres, 49 tonnes
Nacelle: 11 metres, 82 tonnes
Blades: are made of glass-fibre-reinforced epoxy, and there are three on each turbine, 40m in length, 10 tonnes each.
Foundations: 370 cubic metres of concrete, 48 tonnes of reinforcing steel
Underground cabling: Approximately 45 kilometres


QUEENSTOWN with Clyde Dam Tour (Sept 18)

Per person price includes transportation, Clyde Dam visit / site inspection, wine tasting, platter lunch
*Participants to make their own departure arrangements to/from Queenstown. Exclusive Tours can assist with individual flight bookings.
Per person is NZD$140.00.
This per person price is based on 20 travellers.

Monday 18th September
0830 hours participants to meet in hotel lobby at Copthorne Lakefront Hotel, 27 Frankton Road, Queenstown.
0900 hours depart Copthorne Lakefront Hotel bound for Clyde Dam for a visit / site inspection. About 75 minutes driving time from Queenstown to Clyde Dam.
1030 hours to 1130 hours Clyde Dam visit / site inspection.
1145 hours depart Clyde Dam bound for Carrick Wines for wine tasting and a platter lunch.
1215 hours to 1415 hours at Carrick Wines.
1530 hours approximate arrival time back at Copthorne Lakefront Hotel, Queenstown.
